AHHHH! Andre

Thursday, October 30, 2008

If at first you don't succeed! Start Again? Of Course!

Yes I've started again, bought the new fabric 22 count Aida and I actually bought the right amount this time, Woo Hoo! Oh! Dear 3rd Oct.
I'm stitching with DMC 520...I've done some research and traditionally this sampler would have been stitched in 'red' but I just couldn't handle stitching in red so I've gone 'green'

An Eight and Sixteen Year Old's Sampler

I found these wonderful Samplers at the City of Gosnells Museum. Sorry about the poor quality of the photos they were hung quite high on the wall, and me being quite short, it was difficult to stretch up. Like you Sherri I am in awe of these old samplers, can you imagine an 8 year old stitching this today?

Walking for Marc and Spanish Update

This Sunday morning we are 'walking' for Marc our 6 year old grandson who has Cystic Fibrosis. Funds raised will go to research to find a cure. Please take a look at Marc's website created by his wonderful Mum & Dad, Emma & Doug.
The 'Mystery' is coming along nicely...so relaxing to stitch...so relaxing I had to unpick 'quite a lot' yesterday evening because I was so relaxed. Have a good weekend, think of us walking!!

Oh! Dear and I'm Pleased

Oh! Dear... The pattern for Bristol Fashion arrived on Tuesday Woo Hoo! and whats wrong with stitching two projects at a time? Nothing at all...so last evening I made preparations to do just that. I already had some fabric, beautiful 28 count evenweave. I cut the fabric, basted the edges, found the middle...and started...stitched all of the little ship and the verse top and bottom, looked lovely. 11.30, should be off to bed, I am sat looking at my handy work and suddenly realised I had cut the fabric to the size of the stitching, no borders for framing. How could I have done that? So its back to the drawing board or to Stitchers Corner to buy some more fabric. Not pleased with me.
I'm pleased...The Spanish Mystery is coming along really well...so easy to stitch...very relaxing.

FFF is Finished

Faith-Family-Friends is finished and I'm very pleased with it...now do I frame it? or roll it up with the other unframed ones in my stash? Oh! for more wall space. Maybe I just won't think about for now. This weekend has been stitching heaven, my DH has been away on a 'boys' weekend, and I got to watch a DVD all the way through in one sittting North & South from a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell Oh! it was so good, and I was in control of the remote as well.

Started the Spanish Sampler yesterday, love the colours.

My Reason for Stitching...

My reason for stitching is my DH's job, he is in the Heavy Transport business, repairing. Well instead of getting angry about waiting for him to come home, and dried up dinners. Cross stitching was the answer...it was also portable for taking on breakdowns at weekends.
So this is my very 1st piece stitched back in 1994...I wish I had started earlier, there is still so much stitching to do, think I need another life time.

Decision??

The decision has been made (I think) my next project will be the Spanish Sampler Mystery Stitch-A-Long by Periphaeria Designs! I've downloaded and printed the patterns...and I shall stitch on 28count evenweave. I shall do the coloured version, makes it more interesting I think. Mind you I could change my mind, because I've just bought 'Bristol Fashion' by Long Dog Samplers
Well... Bristol is where I come in the UK, so I had to buy it didn't I? It won't be here until next week I bought it online from The Crewel Gobelin in NSW.
Faith-Family-Friends isn't quite finished yet, so that gives me more time to think about it. So maybe there is still a decision to be made..OH! Dear!

No Knots WooHoo! and Over '1'

Just over a weeks work, and not one single knot all week, it should be finished by the end of the week. Then My DH will hear the dreaded words "I've got nothing to stitch" Well! thats not exactly true, there are about 6 kits opened and unopened, a dozen bookmarks I've started and got distracted by something better.
So the search is on...
See the example of my first try of stitching over '1'..... I now have great admiration for the people who do this.

A week of KNOTS...

Faith-Family-Friends is moving along after a week of Knots. Every time I started to stitch, knots...why is that? When I never change the type of thread, needles etc.etc. Its a mystery to me, can anyone explain it? Still I'm pleased with the progress.

3 down 1 to go...

I completed the 3rd square last night and feeling pretty pleased with myself...because I am finding this pattern very hard going...I have uploaded the pattern of the 4th square, double click on it and take a look...

the symbols in some areas are so similar, especially the A - a - E -e with either dashes or dots on the top, anyway I'll manage...just thought I'd have a bit of a whinge, considering all the other symbols that can be used, which would make everything a lot clearer.
Have a Good Day ((*_*))

'coming along'

Its 'coming along' I'm loving doing this piece, its so detailed (lots of thread changing Hmm?) Title: Faith-Family-Friends I downloaded it from PatternsOnline, good site lots of choice.
Its a little quiet here, our London Family have been staying for over a week, and now they have moved back into their house. We all need our own space...Yes indeed!
I drove to Rockingham today to have lunch with my very dear friend Shirley. We have been friends for 33 years, long time hey! Good to chat Shirl...luv you!

'little jewels'

I had a 'little' accident on Sunday, broke my camera, I was very upset. So my DH said go buy another, he's such a 'great bloke' So I did, its a Ricoh Caplio R6, and last night I sat and read the User Guide ( I really need to get a life) It takes Macro shots from a distance of 1 cm. These are shots of the X Stitch I'm working on. Awesome hey! The stitches look like 'little' jewels
